Our last post from South America!

Well we're in Trinidad now. We took our flight from Suriname this morning at about 6 am meanin we had to wake up at 2'30 to get there on time. We didnt really have any problems at the air port except that they took my (josiah's) bug spray, which I was very pleased to give them as long as they let me on the plane.

Our flight was only an hour and a half. We caught a cab and he took us to our hotel which was an hour a way. I guess we were all expecting a nice big american style hotel with a pool but it turned out to be just a hole in the wall...  well, actually its pretty nice. we would recommend the Forty Winks to anyone! It's like a renovated house inthe middle of down town that was turned into a little hotel. The service is excellent.

So we finished off our trip yesterday with church, a day at the beach and a birthday party. we learned this game called Jewel. no body ever wins in that game... You basically make four squares in the sand and theres two teams. one team is on the lines trying to tag the other team who is trying to get to the other side. We had fun. plus the suriname river is brown and full of nasty things like condoms and old beer cans. no body actually swims in it. BUT WE DID! some people actually do swim in it but you get very mucky. If you ever wanna go swimming in South America go to Tobago. we hear they have awesome beaches. but of course we had fun there too!

We said our goodbyes and gave hugs then we went to bed cuz we were pooped!

This short trip has been really IMPACTful for us and we know it has been IMPACTful for the people we met in Suriname. We hope to continue the relationships we built there. We've learned how to work with eachother, we experienced the cultures and the church abroad and we have learn a lot about our selves too, I learned I could probably preach a sermon if I wanted, mike learned that through proper communication we in a group could work a lot better together, and Ryan learned how to interact with a new culture and some of the unwriten cultural rules that go with a different culture like the hostess doesnt eat with her guests beacuse she is keepin the meal running smoothly, always leave a household item as a gift and a blessing and if someone offers you somthing you accept it without hesitation.

Thank you for your prayers and your support of this programe at CLBI. We hope that you will continue to support this programe in the future because we three dudes think God really uses this programe to stretch us and to explore his will for our lives.

Many blessings to you! youre all awesome and we love you. God bless.

From Josiah, Ryan and Michael!

We'll send you a message when we get back home. PEACE.

Our final days.

Well me and ryan. just sitting here. mikes in the shower gettin clean. I've already had a shower and Ryans sittin there being stanky.

This is one of our last days in Suriname.

Suriname has been amazing. Everyone has been so hospitable and generous. The Food is to die for! And the scenery is amazing. Everyone here has been trying to get us girlfriends so we wont leave (which we're taking as a compliment) but so far they (and we he-he) have had no luck.

Shout out to Luke our home boy yo!!

Also Andrew Koenig... your a sweet heart. ( love your bro)

Lets update you on the sitch.

We went zip lining!! (Dont worry wanda i didnt use team money lol)

We had a blast and we all made it back safe. actually funny story. on the way there our tire blew! LAME!!
but thanks to GOD it blew right next to a school bus which we hired to get us there. This was a blessing because we had 15 min to get there or else we would be kicked off the list. PHEW!thanks God!! Ryan later fixed the tire with his mad farmer skills. Thanks ryan!

Next we went to visit a native village called Pawaka. The people were very interesting and hospitable to us. They taught us how to make Cassava bread. That was sweet! It was a nutritious and delisous treat! It has a long proccess but only one ingreadeant. Casava bread is made from Bitter Casava root which is actually poisonous. ... BUT dont worry Ryan's mom, they extract the poisen by squeezing the root to let all the dangerous ucky poisonous juices out! YAY!

Today we helped out at a small youth conference. We sang worship songs and shared our testimonies. Everything else was in dutch so we read our bibles while Ryan talked to the ladies. ("oohhh dear" ryan says)

After that we went to a church service. It was very livly and fun. There was dancing singing and non-alcoholic beverages. YAY!

Anywho, Now that we're done being all emotional (huh?) we're gonna Go to bed becuse we're helping out at two church services tomorrow then we swim and party at the Van Ommeron household (our host) woot!

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers, and to our loving, beautiful wonderful mothers: WE'LL BE HOME SOON! well actually, ill be home in 3 months but ryan will: BE HOME SOON MOM!

kthxbye God bless.

Ryan and Josiah ( and mike in spirit) signing out. PEACE!

hair cuts and mustaches

hey their. Ryan here bringing you back into the life of team Suriname!
If you are wondering were Mike and Josiah are, they are over under the dim light getting hair cuts and leaving mustache's. I'm not into that sort of thing so im letting my hair continue to grow and talking to you!
So the last two days we have been working at comunity of hope church. They had a house which they have their sunday school in and the termites had gotten into the ceiling. So we have spent the last two days tearing out ceiling panels and running from cocroaches and other freaky unnatural creepy crawlies! finished cleaning up today and had fun burning all the waste in the back (no burn permit required)
Also on the way to lunch today we saw some nice looking coconuts in some trees and we were like we totally need to get those and eat em! so on the way back to the church we picked some one did fall in the water near by but that was ok we fished it out (and didnt find out till later that the water was waste from the houses) when we got back to the church with our prized coconuts. we burst em open with the help of a hammer and a wood chisel they were full of delicious water and the small amount of meat within was delicious!
well tomorrow we are going to Pawaka an amerindian village were we will take part in some zip lineing activitys! we willdefinetly let you know how that goes!
thank you for your thoughts and prayers!
God Bless!

Hello family and friends
We have been away from a computer for a few days so we are back to give you an update.
This last week we have been with Dominee (Pastor) Kenneth Kross and his lovely family visiting and praying for people in the hospital, doing some database stuff for the Bethlehem Church, and working at a orphanage in Nickerie.
Wednesday morning we spent walking around the hospital visiting and praying for all who would have it. Everyone, including a Hindu man exepted. We prayed for a lady that was going to have sergery the next day and when she came she looked very unhappy but after we had finished she had a big smile on her face and thanked us warmly. Prayer is a wonderful thing.
Friday we drove to the region of Nickerie to the city of New Nickerie to help at an orphanage. We wired in new lights around the entire premisis and put safety bars over the thin glass windows so the kids don't break them when playing.
On the last night at the orphanage we had a worship evening with all the kids. It was so much fun, we danced and clapped ,learned some songs and led some songs. T'was a hoot.
Sunday we were fully involved in the local Lutheran Church service. Josiah did the preaching, Mike did the readings and a prayer, and Ryan also did a reading and the Kyrie. Also Josiah played the guitar and our trio sang four special worship songs.
We are exited for this next week at Community of Hope Chuch for our last week of our Impact trip.

Thank you so much for your prayers
God bless

Day off at Brownsberg

well for the last two days we've been on an adventure! We went to a "mountain" in suriname called Brownsberg. It is only 3000 feet above sea level and it only cools off to 20 degrees at the top during the night but to the surinames its freezing!

We drove for about 2hrs south of Paramaribo. It was mostly country driving with little villages here and there. Our driver Richard (boyfriend to Lucretia's niece) said he would drive as far as he could to the base of the mountain because the road had been recently washed out. We had decided as a group to hike up the mountain. He drove till he got stuck in a rut then it was time for us to go! And while I (Josiah) took a leak mike and ryan pushed him out (he wasnt really that stuck).

Well we walked and walked for about 3 hrs up this crazy muddy mountain. We found out why it's called the "Brown Mountain". The dirt there is reddish brown and the first thing I did was step in a massive puddle of brown!

So at the top we were going to meet Luctrecia's brother Robert (Rocky). And apperently he had sent somebody down to get us. But when we met the guy we couldnt understand what he was saying plus we remembered the golden rule all our mothers taught us: "Dont take rides from strangers." so techniquely we didnt have to walk. shoot. thanks mom.

Once we got up there we had an awesome meal cooked by Rocky the chef himself then we hit the hay or hammock whatever.

The next morning we watched Rocky feed his "pets". Little flightless birds called Kamakazies! Little did we know that we had eaten these cute little birds the night before. Theyre pretty good actually.

We then went for a couple hikes to see the water falls. That was awesome. The water was so clear and we could even drink it without getting beaver feaver (or monkey feaver). We sat in the little pools it made as the cooling water splashed over our backs (Mike is being a poet). We found some huge trees and some Tarzan style vines that we totally took advantage of.

Altoghether we didnt see as much wild life as you would expect in the rain forest. We would have liked to see the Forest Master (a deadly snake that hides in the trees pounceing on wayward canadians) but we had to settle for a much smaller snake that only kills you in 3 hrs as opposed to 3 minutes like the Forest Master.
We had an awesome break but it was time to go back down the mountain. We decided to take a bus down instead of walking. the bus was crazy. sometimes we felt that we would tip over and slide down the mountain the roads were so trecherous. well we made it down alive and we're now ready to go make hospital visits with Dominee Kross.

Well thanks again for your prayers! God bless!

Our week at Martin Luther Kerk (Church)

Mike and Ryan here again, unfortunatly Josiah is up to his armpits with sermon preperation so he will not be joining us this evening. But don't worry you will hear from him soon.
This week we have been working on a number of different projects around Martin Luther Church. Our first project was repainting and repairing the Church board room, this included washing down the scummy walls, patching holes and giving it a fresh coat of precious purple paint. It wouldn't have been our first choice but the store didn't give us many options. It was either poop brown or purple, we picked purple. It actually turned out pretty good. (Check out photos) We also restored the very old exterior lighting of the Church. These lamps were very decorative and old and looked sharp with a new coat of paint.
Our final project was installing a sound system in the fellowship hall.
We really enjoyed our week at the Church, got a lot done and the congregation really apreciated our work.
Our hosts here have been fantastic, welcoming and it makes our time here so much better.
On sunday we head in land toward the Amazon for some adventure and work.
Thank you for your prayers, and continue praying for our team!
God Bless!
Mike and Ryan
